Bloggers Rock'n Vintage with Leslie Young March 29 2013, 0 Comments

Well, I am closing out the Bloggers Rock'n Vintage series with my girl Leslie Young from Fashion du Jour daily. Leslie is such an awesome person. We've known each other since junior high school...I know crazy right. She has an amazing eye for fashion and the thrifting skill like no other. Her positive and encouraging personality make it impossible for you not to fall in love with her. Let's find out more about Leslie's love of vintage!

I Rock Vintage because….I Rock Vintage because I love the thrill of replicating a high fashion look with pieces I find at vintage boutiques; not to mention the prices point is a fraction of the price I’d pay in a high end designer boutique.  I’ve got a family to feed and closet to fill for goodness sakes so I have to be strategic!  LOL

What is your all time favorite vintage find too date...There are so many pieces that I’ve fallen in love with over time, but I’d have to say my absolute favorites are a brand new pair of classic Timberland Boots for $8 and a pair of Ray Ban Wayfarers in mint condition for $1.  True treasures.

Who would say you're vintage style icon is...When it comes to who my vintage style icon is, I’d have to say it depends on the day of the week.  Some days I tend toward the classic looks of Audrey Hepburn with cigarette pants and cashmere sweaters.  On other days I lean toward the not-so-vintage-but-vintage-in-my-book style of Denise Huxtable (Lisa Bonet).  I love her nonchalantly chic style expression.

As spring approaches what trend would you love to see from the past..I have a feeling that Birenstocks with socks are coming back call me crazy but I feel it in my bones. Will I be rocking it? Not so sure...call me when L.A.Gears come back.

Leslie is wearing a printed Leslie Fey secretary blouse with denim jeans and super cute wedges. She is chill and ready for what the day has in store for her.

Bloggers Rock'n Vintage: Jillian Martin of The NuSophisticate March 22 2013, 0 Comments

I came across Jillian's blog early last year during my girls Mattie's Style Blogger of Color Conference and was instantly hooked. Her style was effortless and her shoe game was insane! We had a chance to meet in Atlanta during the conference and she was an absolute doll! Checkout how Jillian incorporate vintage in her life.

I Rock Vintage because…it’s the most effective way to find a one of a kind piece that stands out from the crowd.

What is your all time favorite vintage find too date… My favorite vintage find to date is the starburst brooch that I’m wearing in this outfit. It’s such a versatile piece. I’ve worn it with everything from evening gowns to jeans and a tee. It’s really one of those pieces that I can’t go too long without wearing.

Who would say you’re vintage style icon is… My vintage style icon would be my mom. The older I get, the more I appreciate her brave style choices. I’m constantly flipping through old photos of her and figuring out ways to recreate her amazing looks. Plus, she still has tons of vintage jewelry and clothes that I sneak out with when I visit.

As spring approaches what trend would you love to see from the past… I’ve recently been obsessed with flared jeans. So, a comeback of extreme bell bottoms would be fine by me. They make your legs and booty look amazing!

Jillian Rock'd her LKV vintage brocade skirt with J.Crew turtleneck, Levi denim jacket, Christian Louboutin pumps, vintage broach and cuff and ring from Aldo. I loved how she Jillian styled her skirt. It's so effortless and would look great in the office on a Friday.

Bloggers Rock'n Vintage: Allison Prenger of The Style Pundit March 15 2013, 0 Comments

Next up on Blogger's Rock'n Vintage is Allison Prenger or as her fashion loving followers call her The Style Pundit. To say this girl rocks my wold is an understatement. Her style is effortless and her drink of choice; Scotch, made us friends forever!

I Rock Vintage because...while it is great to wear on trend pieces, so much of today's trends are taken from previous times. Not only do I rock vintage because it has a "throwback" vibe, but I believe vintage is a way to add character and worldliness to a look.

What is your all time favorite vintage find too date... My dad's watch that he received as a college graduation gift. I found it in the back of his closet, had it restores, and now it is the only silver watch I own and wear.

Who would say you're vintage style icon is... it isn't really an icon, but the movie Dances with Wolves constantly impacts my style. I love anything turquoise, and i feel like that native american prints was such a trend in the 90's, that it is an earthy, natural style to incorporate into my every day looks now. I inherited my grandmother's turquoise jewelry collection and my dad's leather paneled mountain aviators, so i would say that the region and theme greatly influences my looks.

As spring approaches what trend would you love to see from the past... rose colored lenses. I swear that is the only pair of sunglasses that I have been wearing. It looks so fresh and fun, and are great for rainy days, when you need to still wear sunglasses to complete an outfit.

Allison is wearing a 1928 Co. Victorian Rose Gold Locket with a Parker Dress and vintage reversible fur vest...I know amazing right!

Bloggers Rock'n Vintage: Kéla Walker of Kéla's Kloset March 08 2013, 0 Comments

I have the pleasure of starting off Lily Kai Vintage first series; Bloggers Rock'n Vintage with the amazing Kéla Walker of Kéla's Kloset. I started following Kéla's blog a little over a year and a half ago and fell in love instantly. While in NYC last year for Fashion Week we meet and I thought to myself she is the real deal! Find out more about Kéla and her love of vintage.

I Rock Vintage because the quality and craftsmanship  of garments from decades past is so much better than what's available now.  Plus I know I'll have something unique and wont have to worry about every Jane,  Jenny and Julie having it. There's no "B*tch Stole My look" with vintage.

What is your all time favorite vintage find too date?
Oooh, man there are so many but I would have to say it was  a score from the Goodwill.  I have this ridiculous obsession with Diane Von Furstenberg and her wrap dresses.  On an impromptu trip to the GW upstate, NY ( all the best deals are in the suburbs) I scored not 1, not 2 but 3 vintage DvF dresses for 22 bucks.  You should have seen my face when I spotted them and how fast I scooped them off the rack. They are from the early years of the line and feature her signature print.   I still can't believe I found those dresses or that someone actually got rid of them in the first place.   Who would do such a thing

Who would say you're vintage style icon is?
Tracey Ellis Ross ~ Her style evokes the perfect blend of vintage, chic , modern femininity. I'm sure her mother, Diana Ross' wardrobe has a lot to do with it considering she's admitting to shopping her mother's kloset.  At any rate I love it.  Even when she's not wearing something old, her modern style still evokes that vintage charm.

As spring approaches what trend would you love to see from the past?
I would love to see the return of the ladylike style of the 50's and 60's -flare skirts, tailored wiggle dresses and pill box hats, opera gloves. How great would it be to see more women wearing those styles? Okay, maybe not the hats but  I love all of that posh femininity from the past.

LKV in Action: Party Crashing in Style January 10 2013, 0 Comments

It's always a pleasure to see customers wearing pieces from Lily Kai Vintage and last night was no different. While thumbing through Instagram I spotted by BFF in a Carolyne Barton Night Sequin Blouse she purchased from LKV earlier this year. The best part? She was crashing a Microsoft Holiday party. Typically when you think of a party crasher they are attempting to stay under the radar BUT not T. Mills. I can tell she was working the room and staying under the radar is not her style!
